Filmmaker and Palisades Charter High School alumni J.J. Abrams sold his Riviera home for $20.4 million, according to a report by Dirt.
Abrams, most famous for his work as a director/producer on “Star Trek,” “Star Wars,” “Lost” and “Alias,” originally listed the home for $22 million in April 2021, which he paid $14.5 million for in 2014.
Built in 1995, the East Coast traditional-style home, which sits atop a bluff, features five bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms spread out over more than 7,000 square feet. Described in a previous listing as “gated and extremely private,” it is largely not visible from the street.
“The stunning approach across park-like grounds establishes a true estate feeling,” according to the listing. “This ideal family home represents an understated elegance where not a single expense was spared.”
A grand, two-story entrance features a winding wooden staircase, which is designed to be the focal point of the house. This space leads to the living, family and dining rooms.
“As you enter the house,” according to the listing, “you are immediately drawn to views of the city, which can be seen through the entry, family room and outdoor living room.”
The home features space for both casual and formal entertaining, with a gourmet center island kitchen and adjacent family room affording casual entertainment and a large-scale living room and dining room for formal occasions.
A master suite plus sitting room offer “extraordinary views” through French doors, which lead to a large, private deck. There are four additional bedrooms, two offices and a gym on the second floor.
The home also features a maid’s bedroom and bath, guest suite with exterior sitting area and fountain, wine cellar, three-car garage, and more.
“Mature trees and exquisitely manicured gardens provide idyllic tranquility for this rare rim property,” the listing concluded.
But, according to Dirt, it doesn’t sound like the Abrams family will be cutting their ties to the neighborhood anytime soon, as they reportedly own at least two other homes within the Palisades as of 2018.
