
John Henry Kuhl III died peacefully at home, Nov. 2, 2013, after a long and good life. Born May 7, 1922, he was 91. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Norma Lyn Patterson Kuhl, and his brother Walter Edgar Kuhl.
During World War II he was a B17 flight instructor pilot. After the war he graduated from UCLA and worked for many years in the family construction business, J. H. Kuhl and Sons.
He was active in his church, Corpus Christi, for which. J. H. Kuhl and Sons was the general contractor. He also built the family home in Pacific Palisades and lived there for 60 years.
He always made his family a priority, including making it possible for the whole family to gather together on vacations and special occasions.
John was also active in the Building Industry Association, the Westside Rotary and the Westside YMCA, and was a trustee for the Carpenters Pension Trust for Southern California.
He is survived by his four children, Kathryn, John IV, Martha and Peter, and their spouses Richard, Nancy, Phil and Lynne.
He will be missed by many, including his eight grandchildren Tim, Mark, Kori, John V, Alison, Nick, Eric and Katelyn; their spouses, Kelly, Erin, John, John, Layla and Amy; and his six great grandchildren Caleb, Jessie, Lincoln, Quinn, Ellis and Tucker.
There will be a memorial mass, with a gathering to follow, at Corpus Christi Church in the Palisades at 10 a.m. on Jan. 4.
