The meteoric rise of karate kid Lily Kinnear continued last week at the 37th annual Southern Region Open in Dothan, Alabama.

A brown belt at Gerry Blanck’s Martial Arts Center, she performed in front of Yoshukai Grand Master Yamamoto for the first time and took home one first-place and two second-place trophies in the 13-15 Co-Ed Division. The daughter of Hollywood actor Greg Kinnear won in musical forms, then was the runner-up in forms and weapons.
A 7th-grader at St. Matthew’s, Kinnear turned heads in March with three firsts, two seconds and a fourth at her very first tournament, the Compete World Martial Arts Championships in Ontario.
