Los Angeles Police Department West LA Station is participating in this year’s Southern California Special Olympics Plane Pull on September 23 at the Long Beach Airport.
Each year the station participates in the Plane Pull and Torch run, which both help raise funds for the Special Olympics. LAPD Senior Lead Officer for Pacific Palisades Brian Espin said the team’s goal is $5,000.
“This goal covers the fundraising for both events,” Espin said to the Palisadian-Post. “We are asking to help out this awesome cause by donating to the Special Olympics on behalf of LAPD West LA.”
Last year, LAPD West LA raised more $3,000, according to Espin.
“I want to surpass this mark, and show these Special Olympics athletes that our community supports them even more.”
Every dollar raised goes toward providing equipment, uniforms, training for athletes and more.
“With your donation, we can enrich the lives of athletes with intellectual disabilities and their communities through sports, education and athlete health,” read the donation page. “Every dollar raised by Special Olympics not only provides equipment, uniforms and training for our athletes, but also gives them empowerment, joy and improved health.”
