“I’ve always been a nut for jewelry,” Palisadian Joanna Flores admitted during a phone call with the Palisadian-Post. The Boston native began her career in retail as a store manager who would make jewelry and sell to friends as a side hustle.
Flores’ desire to “do something serious,” combined with her belief that women should be able to have “affordable fine jewelry” and not wait for such items to be purchased for them, compelled her to launch online store Lagoon Jewels in 2014.
“We want everyone to feel beautiful in real jewelry,” the website expresses. “Real diamonds and designs that are classic, contemporary and collectable for all.” There are necklaces, rings, earrings, bracelets and one-of-a-kind pieces in the carefully curated collection.
Flores works with a small group of manufacturers and buys from vendors at trunk shows in Hong Kong and New York, in addition to LA’s Downtown jewelry district.
She recently began creating pieces of her own using sapphires and jade Buddha pieces set in 14k rose gold. “I definitely want to do more of that,” Flores said.
Lagoon Jewels will be on display at a trunk show on Sunday, Dec. 2, at the Sterling Building, 10390 Wilshire Blvd., from 2 to 6 p.m. Guests are invited to register at the front desk and proceed to the 3rd Floor Social Room where drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be served alongside the merchandise.
The more casual jewelry enthusiast may visit lagoonjewels.com to view the collection, make a purchase or sign up for the newsletter to receive updates on new products and upcoming sales.
