Pacific Palisades was well-represented at the Ojai Valley Tennis tournament last weekend, with Lucas Bellamy reaching the finals of the Boys 14 singles division before falling just short in a valiant effort against Santa Barbara’s Kento Perera.
Seeded third, Bellamy needed only straight sets to move through his first four matches, with his stiffest test being a semifinals thriller with Los Angeles’ Adam Sraberg, 7-5, 7-5. In the finals, Bellamy lost to top-seeded Perera, 6-4, 7-5.
Also in the Boys 14 singles field, Palisades High freshman Ben Goldberg, seeded ninth, reached the round of 16, notching straight set victories over Rolling Hills Estates’ Hikaru Kasai (6-3, 6-2) and Ojai’s Hiromu Kato (6-4, 6-0) before being ousted by fifth-seeded Myles Webb of Glendale, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Palisadian R.J. Sands also reached the round of 16 with straight-set victories over Santa Barbara’s Miles Hale (6-2, 6-2) and West Hollywood’s Max Green (7-5, 6-3) before falling to Bakersfield’s Dylan Simonsen, 6-1, 6-0. Sands’ younger brother, Jake, won his opening match against Mission Viejo’s Riley Wartenberg, 7-5, 6-4, before falling to sixth-seeded Alex Kuperstein of Palm Desert, 6-1, 6-3.
