From Broadway to Palisades Charter High School: “Mean Girls” is set to open on Thursday, October 5.
The show was adapted for Broadway from the eponymous 2004 film—written by and starring Tina Fey—which led to 12 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical and Best Original Score, after it opened in 2018.
“Now, PCHS Theatre Director and Palisadian Nancy Fracchiolla is bringing this runway hit to the Palisades community,” according to a press release.
The story follows Cady Heron, who grew up on an African savanna before moving to the suburban Illinois during high school. There, she faced the “vicious ways of her strange new home.”
“How will this naïve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order?” the press release continued. “By taking on The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming-but-ruthless Regina George. But when Cady devises a plan to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a queen bee without getting stung.”
The Pali High iteration of the show is directed by Fracchiolla and choreographed by Hazel Clarke. Its cast and crew features more than 100 students.
“As a huge fan of Tina Fey, I am very excited to bring this show to Pali,” Fracchiolla said in a statement. “Its message could not be more important for young women.”
Performances will take place in Mercer Hall at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 5; Sunday, October 8; Thursday, October 12; Friday, October 13; and Saturday, October 14, as well as 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 7.
Tickets start at $10 for students and go up to $25 for VIP. General admission is $17.
