A Palisadian’s African grey parrot flew away from his home on Father’s Day. After some minor cuts and injuries sustained from a nine-day excursion, the parrot is happy to be back home recovering.
Owner Ali Shirazi said 4-year-old Jandagh flew from his home in the 300 block of Bellino Drive to a home in Marquez Terrace. Jangdah knows all of Shirazi’s family members by name and can speak more than 200 words.
It was on June 15 when they were planning to transfer Jandagh to a larger cage that he got out and flew away. When Shirazi, who owns a UCLA campus store in Westwood, found out his parrot was missing, he raced home to begin the search.

The Shirazi family searched all over their Castellmmare neighborhood, including nearby hiking trails and the Getty Villa. They bought five heavy-duty binoculars, printed more than 1,000 flyers to hand out to homes and also posted on several online forums. The family even offered a $1,000 reward.
Luckily, a nanny at a Marquez Terrace home had noticed a parrot in the nearby woods. When she saw Shirazi’s online postings about a lost parrot, she made the connection and placed a phone call.
According to Shirazi, African greys usually go where there are children. Whenever the nanny opened the door, Jandagh would try to fly in the house. At night, Jandagh was knocking on the windows of the Marquez Terrace home wanting to be let in.
What about that $1,000 reward? On the nanny’s request, it is being donated to charity.
