Eli Weinbach makes a catch for the last out against Los Alamitos in the Section playoffs.
After finishing as runner-ups in the PONY District 1 playoffs, the Pacific Palisades Baseball Association‘s Mustang Red All-Stars were hoping to get off to a good start at the Section tournament and that’s just what they did Thursday evening at Los Amigos Park in Santa Monica.
Eli Weinbach‘s RBI single ignited a six-run first inning and the PPBA’s 10U Red squad went on to beat Los Alamitos’ B team 19-1 in four innings. Lucas Herman walked to open the top of the fourth, then Weinbach tripled and slid home on a wild pitch to make it 11-0. John Danco drew a bases-loaded walked to force home a run, Gus Wibblesman scored from third on a wild pitch and Herman and Walker Jacobs added RBI hits as Red sent 15 batters to the plate and scored 10 runs in the inning.
Linus Epstein pitched three scoreless innings and Weinbach got the final three outs. Matty Gottesman, Max Rodman, Zack Haas, Gus Neuwirth, Bennett Price, Alex Denham and Zach Weitman round out the lineup for Red, which plays East Long Beach A at 1 p.m. Saturday in a rematch of the District final, where Palisades lost 12-3.
