The Pacific Palisades Task Force on Homelessness will host a community meeting on Monday, March 16, at Palisades Branch Library addressing the topic: “Homeless Youth: Hidden in Plain Site?”
“While we may not directly observe many young people experiencing homelessness in Pacific Palisades,” the meeting notice shares, “LAUSD identified and served more than 15,000 school-age students in 2017-18.”
Tammy Wood, senior parent community facilitator at LAUSD Homeless Education, and Alison Hurst, executive director of Safe Place for Youth, will be speaking.

PPAA Meeting | Palisades Branch Library
The Pacific Palisades Art Association has invited expressionist painter Amadea Bailey as a guest speaker for its monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 10, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Palisades Branch Library.
Bailey is a “formally trained and experienced expressionist painter whose artistic exploration is captured in large scale,” according to her website. Her work has been shown in exhibits around the world, as well as featured in television, films and commercials, with six of her works in Halle Berry’s home.
The event is open to the public and refreshments will be provided.

Rise Against Hunger | The Village
Community United Methodist Church is hosting a Rise Against Hunger—an international hunger relief organization—meal packaging event on Sunday, March 15, beginning at 9 a.m.
“We hope you and your family can participate in this amazing opportunity to package over 15,000 meals for the hungry in only two hours,” a flyer read.
The church is aiming to raise $4,000 to cover the costs of meals. Sign up by emailing cumcpacpal@gmail.com.

Palisades Alliance for Seniors | Palisades Branch Library
Palisades Alliance for Seniors will gather in Palisades Branch Library’s Community Room on Monday, March 9, at 10:30 a.m. for a presentation on the topic “Better Age: Adding Years To Our Life and Life to Our Years – A Geriatrician’s Perspective.”
The meeting will include guest speaker Scott A. Kaiser, M.D., who is the director of Geriatric Cognitive Health at the Pacific Brain Health Center in Santa Monica where he provides specialty geriatric medical consultations. He is concurrently the chief innovation officer of the Motion Picture & Television Fund, a nonprofit organization that provides support to the industry’s workforce and retirees.
“In his talk, Dr. Kaiser will discuss his ‘whole person’ approach to aging and his efforts to connect patients and their families with a broad range of social- and community-based programs to support their overall health and wellbeing,” according to a statement from Palisades Alliance for Seniors.

Battery Collection | Palisades Branch Library
Girl Scout Troop 6445 will host a battery collection on March 28 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Palisades Branch Library.
Representatives from the troop shared that they want to raise awareness and prevent battery waste in the community.
Only household batteries will be collected—Palisadians are encouraged to check with electronic stores and mobile phone providers for rechargeable battery disposal options.
