Hikers Rescued | The Riviera
Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters used a helicopter to rescue two hikers in Pacific Palisades at approximately 9:39 p.m. on Saturday, December 28.
LAFD located the distressed hikers at 2200 Sullivan Fire Road and were able to conduct a hoist operation to rescue them out of the terrain. They were hoisted out safely and escorted back to their vehicles—the hikers were uninjured.

‘Who Pays for Long-Term Care?’ | Palisades Branch Library
At its first meeting in 2020, Palisades Alliance for Seniors will host “Who Pays for Long-Term Care?” on Monday, January 13, at Palisades Branch Library. Guest speaker Aileen Harper, executive director of nonprofit Center for Health Care Rights, will explain Medicare’s limited coverage of skilled care in a nursing home and at home, as well as review Medi-Cal Long-Term Care eligibility rules covering custodial care or personal care services.

Optimists Raise Donations for Salvation Army | Pacific Palisades
For the last 40 years, the Pacific Palisades Optimist Club has collected donations for the Salvation Army during the holiday season. They raised a grand total of $1,796 after ringing their donation bells in front of CVS, Bank of America and Pacific Palisades’ Post Office on Friday, December 13.
The Optimist Club in Pacific Palisades is one of the largest in the area and raises money for various causes, including local schools and children.

Chamber Music Palisades Concert | Upper Bienveneda
The next Chamber Music Palisades concert will pay career tribute to Delores “Dee” Stevens on her 90th birthday at its January 15 concert at 8 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Parish.
The evening will be filled with presentations, special gifts and appearances from world-class artists who have performed with her, including Alan Chapman, KUSC’s on-air host as the evening’s emcee.
The program includes selections by Jean Françaix, Ludwig van Beethoven, Frank Bridge, Maria Newman, Adrienne Albert and Johannes Brahms. Performers include Stevens and her son Paul, Susan Greenberg, Alyssa Park, Newman, Scott Woolweaver, Scott Hosfeld and Timothy Loo.

‘Steel Magnolias’ | Via Mesa
“Steel Magnolias,” presented by Theatre Palisades, opens on Friday, January 10, at Pierson Playhouse.
The story, by Robert Harling, is “a tender and funny play” that explores a family “tug of war” between a mother, daughter and their friends who all go to the same beauty parlor.
You can expect to see “life and its issues get discussed and dissected in a very Southern and ladylike way.”
Performances run through February 16, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $22 for adults, $20 for students and seniors.
