Palisadian Michael O’Hara, a member of the Volleyball Hall of Fame and author of “Prostate Cancer Battle: It’s Strictly Your Decision” has written a new book on the sport that became his lifelong passion. Titled “Volleyball: America’s Challenge to Soccer Worldwide,” the guidebook is a thoroughly-researched, comprehensive guide to volleyball told by one of the game’s pioneers. Chapters include “Rules of the Game,” “Youth and High School,” “U.S. & International Beach Volleyball,” “Olympic & Professional Volleyball,” “Differences Between Indoor and Beach,” “Clothing & Equipment,” “The Contribution of Walleyball” and “Guidelines for Parents, Referees, Volunteers and Fans.” Chapters are written by the likes of Sinjin Smith, John Kessel, Dr. Gary Sato, Dr. Doug Beal, Dr. James Coleman and Dr. Jonathan Reeser. “There has been so little written about our sport that I wanted this to cover it all,” O’Hara said. “Anything people want to know about volleyball–from its history to the training to how its played–can be found in this book.” The growth of volleyball, both beach and indoors, throughout the world is one of the cinderella stories of all time. There are 200 national governing bodies, the most of any sport, all of which will use O’Hara’s book to fan the competition with FIFA, soccer’s powerful international governing body.
