Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building”—which stars Former Honorary Mayor of Pacific Palisades Martin Short, Selena Gomez and Steve Martin—announced that the show will return for a third season.
Short can be seen in Hulu’s true crime parody where he is joined by longtime friend Martin and Gomez in the Upper West Side of New York, forming a trio of murder-mystery podcast devotees. The first season of the show followed the three as they found themselves in the middle of a death investigation, documenting the quest on their own podcast.
“‘Only Murders in the Building’ follows three strangers … who share an obsession with true crime and suddenly find themselves wrapped up in one,” according to Hulu. “When a grisly death occurs inside their exclusive … apartment building, the trio suspects murder and employs their precise knowledge of true crime to investigate the truth. As they record a podcast of their own to document the case, the three unravel the complex secrets of the building, which stretch back years. Perhaps even more explosive are the lies they tell one another.
“Soon, the endangered trio comes to realize a killer might be living among them as they race to decipher the mounting clues before it’s too late.”
The show’s second season recently came to a close on August 23, and fans, left with a cliffhanger, are eager for season three to reveal the answers to all their questions.
Although a premiere date has not been released, it was revealed that actor Paul Rudd will be joining the cast after his cameo in the season two finale, confirmed by Deadline. Rudd will take on the role of Ben Glenroy, the lead actor in Oliver Putnam’s (Short) Broadway play.
“We’re all fans of [Rudd]. But also, Paul has a pretty close relationship with Martin Short, and he also made a film with Selena and she adores him,” co-creator John Hoffman said to Deadline about the casting. “The tease … teed up between Charles (Martin) and Ben is what we’re going to reveal in season three … It’s clear that there’s huge tension between these two actors for their Broadway opening and the source of that will be revealed in season three.”
As fans continue to wait for additional details, “Only Murders in the Building” has scored major praise—the show recently earned 17 Emmy Award nominations. Short and Martin were both nominated as Outstanding Lead Actors in a Comedy Series.
The series, currently consisting of 20 episodes, is available to stream on Hulu.
