Matthew’s Garden Café was the beautiful setting for Bluecat Music Voice Studio’s summer open-mic night this past Saturday, June 21. Nineteen Bluecat singers accompanied themselves on piano or guitar, or sang accompanied by pianist Mark Abulencia. A supportive audience of fellow students, family and friends filled the café to capacity, dining on a feast prepared by Matthew’s Café.
“There are not enough venues for emerging performing artists to express themselves. Pacific Palisades is a haven of creativity,” Heather Lyle told the Post. “My biggest joy in life is helping people find their voices. Open mic nights give performers of all ages an opportunity to try out their voices.”
Performers included former Pali High Valedictorian (2011) Pam Soffer who now attends Princeton University, Daniela Grinblatt 2011’s Miss Palisades, now attending UC Berkeley, Palisades resident Josh Dean, Santa Monica resident Kevin Nizi, Santa Monica resident Jenny Cho and Pilates teacher Stephanie Leevan.
Bluecat music’s Tuesday night class rock band, “The Tuesdays,” ended the evening with a trio of rock songs.
Heather Lyle has been teaching Singing and Speaking Skills for 14 years in the Palisades at her Bluecat Music Voice Studio as well as at Santa Monica College and USC’s School of Dramatic Arts.
