National Charity League Coronet Debutante Ball hosted its 69th Coronet Ball at the California Club at the end of November under the direction of Julie Barker Martinez. Among those who were presented during the event from Los Angeles and the South Bay was Miss Elizabeth Renèe Jacobson of Pacific Palisades.
“Since its inception in 1949, the Coronet Ball continues to be a charitable and social event recognizing the culmination of years of service of young women who have distinguished themselves through their dedication and commitment to volunteerism in their communities,” according to a statement from event organizers. “Many of these families have a long tradition with the Coronet Ball, their sisters and other relatives preceding them as ‘Coronets.’ Others are beginning their own new family tradition.”

Jacquelyn Newmark and Christian Sherden were married on October 30 in what was described as a small, intimate gathering at the Newmarks’ home in Pacific Palisades. Newmark is a sixth-generation Angeleno, daughter of Harris Newmark III and Carole DePould Newmark, and great-great-granddaughter of Sarah and Harris Newmark—a Jewish businessman, developer, philanthropist and historian from 1853 to 1916 in Los Angeles.
Sherden, son of Bill and Molly, can trace his heritage back to the Mayflower and is a direct descendant of Myles Standish, the British-American colonist and military leader of the original Plymouth colony between 1620 and 1656.
Newmark and Sherden met in 2004 at Washington University in St. Louis. The couple resides in Brentwood, where Newmark runs her web design company, Newmark Design, LLC, and Sherden directs cinematics for video games at Counterplay Games.
With history dating back to the Palisades High School Class of 1964, the Shardanees Y-teen club continues to get together and travel, recently attending a mini reunion at Tina Christian Swartz’s home in Palm Desert. The trip was attended by Janie Larson, Jacquie Clyman Summers and Wendy Price Anderson.
Over the past 20 years, the group has traveled to places like San Francisco, Las Vegas, San Diego, Seattle and Italy. This trip included a visit to the Living Desert Gardens and Zoo during the day, as well as returning in the evening for the Christmas Lights display.
“Last year we lost a dear friend and Shardanee sister, Bonnie Graveline Worley, but she will always be with us in our hearts and we all reminisce a lot,” Price Anderson shared. “I can’t tell you how much it means to me and everyone else that we keep up, supporting and just being there for each other.”
In response to the pandemic, the group turned to Zoom for virtual gatherings, but have since been able to meet in-person.
