Marquez Charter Elementary School had speed humps installed on Marquez Avenue at the end of March. Parent Benjamin Hanelin said he applied for speed humps to be installed at the school through the Los Angeles Department of Transportation.
“Because my kids go to Marquez … and I want the kids who go there to be as safe as possible, I applied,” he said to the Palisadian-Post. “I had to go get signatures. The city requires at least 75% of property owners who live on the street agree to the installation, and they too wanted a safer street. With that support, the city moved ahead with the installation.”
“Ensuring that our students and the community are safe is my top priority,” Principal Dr. LaTanya Reeves said about the project. “This is teamwork at its best.”
