The Pacific Palisades Baseball Association season is off to an exciting start and one of the best games last week was Friday night’s Pony Division clash between Coach Blake Schinto’s Pali Black and Coach Brian Sullivan’s Pali White on Field 2 at the Field of Dreams.
Black prevailed 3-2 in extra innings to improve to 4-1 before tying Pali Red 6-6 the next evening.
White got on the scoreboard first when Blake Anna tripled and scored on an errant pick-off throw in the top of the second inning. Black tied it in the bottom of the third when Tommy Lavia walked with the bases loaded to force home Finn Konner.
In the fifth, Anna walked, stole second and scored on and error to put White back on top, but in the bottom half Will Monaco reached on an error, took second on a wild pitch and scored on a grounder.
Lavia struck out six batters in five innings before giving way to Liam Nassour while James Reinstein struck out five in five innings before being relieved by Finn Sullivan for Pali White.
White threatened in the top of the sixth but could not score and when Sullivan struck out the side in the bottom half, the game went to extra innings.
Anna doubled to right center in the top of the seventh but was left stranded. Walter Sibson led off the bottom half with a single. With two outs, Tribe Edwards reached on and error and Kellen Wald outran a throw to first to score the winning run.
White rebounded to beat Cheviot Navy 6-1 on Saturday, improving to 3-3. Pali Red is 1-3-1 and Pali Blue is 2-2. Pali White is back in action April 13, while Black, Red and Blue resume play April 14.
