Palisades Charter Elementary School raised more than $75,000 from over 1,000 donors during this year’s Walk-a-Thon.
All students were invited to participate in what was described by organizers from Palisades Enrichment Programs as a “fun and active” event, which took place on April 27. Participants had 20 minutes to complete as many laps as they could around the school track.
Community members were invited to support the school by making a pledge or donation toward a student’s participation—either per lap or a flat amount. Neighborhood sponsors were Prima Cantina and Loomey’s Toy Boutique.
“This event is a great way to promote physical fitness, raise funds for the school and support Pali Elementary students,” according to PEP. “Every little bit helps, and your contribution will go toward making a positive impact on the students’ education and well-being.”
Money raised during the Walk-a-Thon will go toward additional staff (including teachers and aides), as well as extra programming, like music, garden, computer lab and P.E. The funds will also support a new turf field.
More than 400 students participated in the Walk-a-Thon, completing a total of 8,343 laps (more than 695 miles) with 1,500 cups of water distributed.
Palisades Enrichment Programs is a “nonprofit charged with supporting fundraising and community-building efforts for Palisades Charter Elementary School.”
Fifth-grader Grant Tyler completed the most laps at 37, followed by Alexander Malayil with 35, Peter Cacciapaglia with 34, Michael Gabayan with 33 and Ms. Barbera (a first-grade teacher) with 32.
The participants who raised the most money were recognized during an assembly.
