Determination was the difference in the Palisades High baseball team’s 4-2 come-from-behind victory last Friday at Hamilton. The Dolphins spotted the home team a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but they were not to be denied and improved to 6-0 in Western League play with six games remaining.
Jacob Kalt got Palisades’ first hit in the top of the fourth. Eli Levy walked and Jared Brecher followed with a two-RBI double to tie the score. Josh Barzilai also singled in the frame.
Barzilai kept the Yankees off the scoreboard in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, allowing only one hit with three strikeouts. In the top of the seventh, he reached on an error. Cord Vanley followed with an RBI triple and scored on a throwing error on the relay by the shortstop. Benji Taylor also singled in the seventh as Palisades took the lead.
Barzilai closed out the win win by inducing a line out to shortstop, a groundout on a bunt back to him, a single and a groundout to shortstop.
Palisades managed only five hits in Saturday’s 8-2 loss to Banning in the Tiger Classic.
The Dolphins began the week in first place by two games over Venice and LACES. Palisades beat Westchester 5-2 on Tuesday and takes on the Comets again today at George Robert Field before hosting El Camino Real at 11 a.m. Saturday in its final game of the Tiger Classic.
