Sure, their prep careers may be over, but three Palisades High baseball players got one last chance to display their talents before heading to college.
Outfielder Amari Yolas, pitcher/infielder Ryan Higgins and catcher Nate Sterling all participated in the 2023 Tyler Skaggs Foundation Senior All-Star Game last Saturday at UCLA’s Jackie Robinson Stadium. The game featured the Southland’s top prep players from the graduating class of 2023.
Playing for Team Red, Yolas patroled center and right field for several innings and made several running catches. Yolas also stole third and scored on a homer by Kehden Hettiger, one of Higgins’ club teammates.
Sterling caught two innings behind the plate and he reached base in a quality at-bat for Red.
Team Red won 4-1 and one of its coaches was Palisades native Scott Heineman, who played at Crespi High and the University of Oregon and is currently a MLB free agent.
Higgins threw one inning, retiring the side on 10 pitches, and played one inning each at first base and outfield for Team Blue.
