There were no surprises when the City Section girls tennis playoff brackets were released Monday afternoon.
Reigning champion Palisades, the Western League winner, was awarded the No. 1 seed in the 12-team Division I bracket and received a first-round bye along with No. 2 Granada Hills (the West Valley League winner), No. 3 Van Nuys (the Valley Mission League winner) and No. 4 Carson (the Marine League winner).
In the quarterfinals Friday at 12:30 p.m. at the Palisades Tennis Center, the Dolphins will host the winner of Wednesday’s match between No. 8 Sun Valley Poly (the East Valley League champion) and No. 9 Narbonne, the Marine League co-runner-up.
Palisades is seeking its third consecutive City title and 23rd overall. The semifinal round is next Tuesday (hosted by the higher seeds) and the finals are Nov. 13 at Balboa Sports Center in Encino.
Eastern League winner Bell is the top seed in the 16-team Division II draw, followed by Northern League co-champion Eagle Rock, Gardena (tied for second in Marine League) and Western League runner-up Venice.
City head-to-head scoring consists of four singles matches and three doubles matches (all best two out of three sets), each worth one point. The first team to four points wins.
