Palisades High‘s boys varsity water polo team gave a valiant effort but lost to Santa Monica 9-8 Wednesday in its final tuneup before this weekend’s Westside Classic, which the Dolphins are co-hosting with Brentwood.
Mitchell Kim had an opportunity to score the equalizing goal with 10 seconds left after Quinn Godfredsen knocked the ball loose but Kim’s arm was hit and he was unable to get a shot off before the final buzzer. Leading the Dolphins was Kian Lotfi with three goals and six steals, Zach Senator scored two goals and added three assists and three steals, Kim added two goals and five steals and Lucas Silva had one goal and three drawn penalties. Matt Affeld made eight saves and Ross Aronson had three.
Pali High’s junior varsity prevailed 8-5 thanks to three goals by Nick Frey, two apiece by Will Schwerdtfeger and Isai Elias and another by Darain Noveir. Goalie Brandon Epp made two saves.
