The Post’s Annual Pacific Palisades Spelling Bee

Who: All elementary school children in grades 1 through 5 who live or go to school in the Palisades are invited.
Where: Pacific Palisades Charter High School, 15777 Bowdoin St, Pacific Palisades, CA 90272
When: Sunday, February 23, 2020, 10 am to 12 noon (first and second grades), 1 pm to 4 pm (third, fourth, and fifth grades).
What: This will be a scored competition, rather than a single-elimination event, so that children can participate for either one or two entire rounds. Participants will compete by grade level, fifth graders against fifth graders, fourth graders against fourth graders, and so on.
Unfortunately, space is limited (especially in grades 1 through 3), so registrations in each grade will be accepted on a first-come basis.
In Round One of the competition, participants will be asked to correctly write down a list of words that they are given. All children will be able to participate through all of Round One.
We’ll then take a break to score the results, and the top ten spellers from each grade will move on to Round Two. In Round Two, each child will be asked to stand and spell a list of words out loud. All children who are in Round Two will be able to participate through the entire round.
Finally, we’ll score the results of Round Two, and each child’s scores from Round One and Round Two will be compiled into the child’s Overall Score.
Win: Trophies will be awarded to the top three spellers in each grade, based on best Overall Score. All participants will receive a Pali Bee T-shirt and a certificate of participation.
There is no official study word list for the Pacific Palisades Spelling Bee. If your child is interested in preparing for the spelling bee, we encourage them to speak with their teachers about appropriate word lists for their grade level. There are many spelling lists available on the Internet.
How: Please register for the event by clicking the “Pay Now” button below; you’ll be able to use your credit card (or a PayPal account, if you have one). The cost is $25, which helps cover a portion of the cost of the T-shirts, trophies, rentals, snacks and other expenses.
