With a score of 142, Palisades High’s boys varsity cross country squad placed fifth last Saturday behind Loyola (18), Cathedral (102), Granada Hills (119) and Quartz Hill (137) at the 47th Bellarmine-Sacred Heart Invitational in Griffith Park.
Leading the way for the Dolphins was senior Jose Sevilla (16:15.0), who finished 16th in a loaded field of 787 runners on the 2.90-mile course. Senior Alec Schmitt was 25th in 16:33.3; senior Noah Wexler was 65th in 17:26.9; senior Joshua Kovacs was 85th in 17:47.4; senior Jeremy Santiago was 93rd in 17:51.6; freshman Owen Lewicky was 128th in 18:23.6; sophomore Axel Mammen was 183rd in 18:57.0; sophomore Bodhi Sahakian was 213th in 19:14.1; junior Milo Dunne was 269th in 19:57.5; senior Stewart Tierney was 315th in 20:24.6; junior Toby Scaduto was 374th in 21:09.8; sophomore Caden Robertson was 419th in 21:39.6; junior Omar Juarez was 429th in 21:48.6; senior Tyson Brazil was 431st in 21:49.7; senior Rodrigo Hernandez was 559th in 23:36.9.
Junior Mollie Wittenberg paced Palisades’ varsity girls, placing 17th in a field of 443 runners in 20:09.7. Sophomore Kyra Morris was 26th in 20:32.3; junior Ava Baak was 49th in 21:37.1; junior Layla Adeli was 50th in 21:27.6; senior Scarlet Klein was 60th in 21:40.0; junior Sadie Sabin was 68th in 22:05.5; freshman Leena Adeli was 75th in 22:31.7; freshman Giada Rice was 83rd in 22:44.1; senior Tierney Smith was 129th in 23:35.9 and freshman sister Cecelia Tierney was 138th in 23:53.1; junior Julia Musumeci was 173rd in 24:40.7; senior Avery Searle was 233rd in 26:02.7; sophomore Virginia O’Neill was 251st in 26:22.1; junior Victoria Hernandez was 273rd in 26:54.8; freshman Casey Scaduto was 316th in 28:18.5; and freshman Molly Liberman was 341st in 29:07.7. Palisades was third with a team score of 89, trailing only Quartz Hill (27) and Granada Hills (39).
Sabin’s time was good enough for third in the JV girls division, Musumeci was 11th and Searle was 18th. Rice’s time was the second-fastest in the frosh/soph division and Cecelia Tierney’s was 10th.
Gwendolen Twist of the Alphabet Streets clocked 19:12.7 to place 18th out of 51 runners in the Open Division, helping The Janes Elite Racing finish fourth.
At the Woodbridge Classic in Norco a week earlier, sophomore Max Fields was second in the three-mile Boys Blue race in 15:27.70; senior David Tobin (15:48.40) was 12th and Schmitt was 32nd in 16:12.90.
