Palisadian Kevin Feige—president of Marvel Studios—executive produced “Hawkeye,” a television mini series that premiered on Disney+ Friday, November 24.
Created by Jonathan Igla, Marvel Studios’ “Hawkeye” is an original new series that takes place after the events of 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame.” Jeremy Renner reprises his role as Clint Barton, also known as Hawkeye, for the show.
The series follows the adventures of Hawkeye as he teams with Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), a skilled archer and aspiring super hero, to unearth a criminal conspiracy and stop enemies from his past.
“For the first time, you get a title Avenger on Disney+, which is great and Jeremy Renner … is the best and he’s the reason to do it,” Feige shared in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “And thankfully Hailee wanted to work with him so we got her to play Kate Bishop and it’s that pairing that I think is going to make for a very happy holiday.”
The film’s cast includes Tony Dalton, Fra Fee, Brian d’Arcy James, Aleks Paunovic, Piotr Adamczyk, Linda Cardellini, Simon Callow, Vera Farmiga and Alaqua Cox.
“Hawkeye” is also set during the December holiday season, “with Clint’s desire to make it home to his family in time for Christmas serving as a major motivation for the character throughout the series,” according to a synopsis on Disney+.
Feige expanded on why the show takes place during the holidays.
“We had a little bit in ‘Iron-Man 3’ … we sort of consider that a Christmas movie,” Feige said. “But this unabashedly is a holiday story and I love the idea of it being a perennial that people can check out every holiday season. I love that it’s debuting just before Thanksgiving, it concludes just before Christmas.”
Feige has been open about his desires to tell Christmas stories within the Marvel Cinematic Universe—last year, during Disney’s 2020 Investor Day, he announced that James Gunn would be writing and directing a “Guardians of the Galaxy” holiday special for Disney+. Production began earlier this month and the special will be released December 2022.
“I’ve always loved films or shows or specials that take place over the holiday season,” Feige said in a press conference. “I think there’s a heightened amount of emotion and a heightened amount of conflict and tension that can occur in this glorious season.”
“Hawkeye” the series, currently consisting of two episodes, premiered on Wednesday, November 24. The remaining four episodes will be released weekly, concluding on December 22.
