A handful of young Palisadians got in the giving spirit—while having fun in a camp environment—to support Brentwood School fourth-grader Stella Spound’s charity “Bee Forever” on Tuesday, July 14.
“With one day of camp Stella was able to raise close to $500. With this money, she designed a logo, had canvas bags made with the logo and she purchased a new pair of jeans and a new t-shirt for 23 preschoolers at the Bessie Pregerson Child Development Center supporting the Westwood Transitional Village, a residential housing program for homeless families in and around Los Angeles County,” said Cheryl Spound, Stella’s mother.
The clothing will help prepare the kids for the upcoming kindergarten school year.
“I can’t wait to go to Stella’s camp,” said Amelia Sarkisian, an Alphabet Streets resident and first-grader at Brentwood School who was invited to the July 14 camp and is looking forward to Stella’s next day of camp fundraising.
“It’s a great idea to do that because it helps other kids who need clothes!” Sarkisian said of Stella’s charity.
For a donation of $60 to “Bee Forever,” kids including Palisadians met at Stella’s Brentwood home for a day of sports, crafts, swimming, a puppet show and other activities all planned by Stella.
“It felt so great to help kids in need. It just lights my heart up,” Stella told the Palisadian-Post.
“My future plans are to keep going with the bee theme like ‘Bee Merry’ and I will give out presents for the holidays. Another idea is ‘Bee Ready’ and I will give out school supplies at the start of the school year.”
