On the evening of June 1, the Los Angeles Trial Lawyers’ Charities (LATLC) hosted its inaugural Casino Night and Texas Hold’em Tournament fundraiser at the Hotel Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica. More than 500 guests attended the sold-out event, including Palisadian attorney Scott Corwin, Treasurer of LATLC, who served as Casino Committee Co-Chair and a Diamond Sponsor of the event.
The event netted more than $110,000 to benefit issues related to education, children, battered women and homelessness. Many of the guests and sponsors were local Palisadians, including Gold Sponsors Drs. Morteza and Karen Khaleghi and LATLC Board Member Spencer Lucas’ firm of Panish, Shea & Boyle. Participating in the event were Congressman Brad Sherman, State Controller John Chiang, State Senator Ted Lieu, State Assemblyman Matt Dababneh, LA City Attorney Mike Feuer, LA City Controller Ron Galperin and LA City Councilman Mike Bonin.

Magicians and tarot card readers entertained the guests when they were not visiting the mobile spa for massages and manicures or rocking on the dance floor. Palisadian attorney Thomas Zaret finished fourth in the poker tournament out of more than 130 players.
“The event was such a huge success we have to move it to a much larger venue next year,” Corwin said. “We have started planning for Casino Night 2015 and we have more exciting surprises in store for next year’s guests.”
LATLC was founded in 2006 by a group of seven plaintiff personal injury attorneys and has grown to more than 600 local attorneys. LATLC partners with other organizations in LA including Aviva Family & Children’s Services; Clare Foundation; Downtown Women’s Center; Imagine LA; LA Mission; OPCC; Venice Family Clinic; Vista Del Mar Child & Family Services; and Youth Mentoring Connection.
