The PPBA Pinto All-Stars celebrate their victory over Redondo in the District playoffs.
Facing a must-win situation, the Pacific Palisades Baseball Association‘s 8U Pinto All-Stars played like champions Sunday afternoon in Manhattan Beach, doubling up Redondo Sunset 8-4 in an elimination game of the PONY District 1 South Bay Tournament.
The win clinched a spot in the Section playoffs, which begin Thursday at Pico Rivera. Palisades plays its first game at 4:30 p.m. against John Mendez.
Starting pitcher Henry Mariscal escaped two bases-loaded jams with strikeouts and fanned four batters in three scoreless innings. He also singled home the last of Palisades’ five runs in the first inning, which was highlighted by Jivan Girodet‘s three-run double. Reliever Kaden Roy had a strikeout in his one inning on the mound and Sammy Petrocelli stole home and struck out three batters over the last two innings.
After dropping its first game Saturday, Palisades rebounded with a 12-7 victory over South Bay to stay alive in the double-elimination format. Palisades had 15 hits, three by Saxon Wald and two apiece by Nathan Eisfelder and Petrocelli, and Crew Morrow stole home.
