TIVOLI CAFÉ
15306 Sunset Blvd., Pacific Palisades • (310) 459-7685
Since 1988, Tivoli Café has been providing Palisadians with very tasty food. In addition, they also keep our good health in mind by offering foods without hormones, steroids or antibiotics, including organic eggs, all-natural chicken and turkey and free-range beef. And, at breakfast, they offer low-carb, gluten-free, almond-flour pancakes.
Best of all, the menu is extensive and the varied selections are quite good, as are the wines.
My daughter-in-law and I shared a starter of caprese—tomato slices, fresh mozzarella cheese with its delicate flavor, avocado, Kalamata olives, fresh basil and an extra-virgin olive oil—perfect to share and a pleasing start. Of course, we also sampled the tasty warm bread to dip into the fragrant oil marinade.
As a special treat, we tried the tuna tartar tower composed of ahi tuna marinated in a zesty teriyaki sauce. With it came cubed roma tomato, avocado topped with micro greens and a slice of homemade garlic bread. Portions are generous at Tivoli, so sharing is a good way to start any meal.
Daily specials are listed on a blackboard at the patio entrance. The filet mignon in a rosemary sauce caught my daughter-in-law’s eye, while the fresh barramundi fish with an artichoke and sun-dried tomato sauce sounded splendid to me. Also listed was chicken in a fresh tomato and caper sauce, and a linguini checca with shrimp, mushroom and sun-dried tomato sauce topped with goat cheese.
The rosemary sauce gave the tender filet mignon fine flavor. This large portion came with perfect mashed potatoes and an array of grilled vegetables: zucchini, asparagus and broccoli. The barramundi was excellent, and came with an artichoke and sun-dried tomato sauce that enhanced the delicate fish, accompanied by the same sides. Like all dishes here, portions are generous.
In case you are wondering, the menu includes many soups and salads along with some 15 pasta offerings, a sextet of entrées, a large array of pizzas and a trio of calzone. Burgers include salmon, gluten-free veggie, free-range turkey and an Italian-style alla Fiorentina. If you only want a sandwich, there are many to choose from, including baked eggplant, grilled steak and a simple avocado sandwich with lettuce, tomato, red onions, mozzarella and Italian dressing. If you desire a wrap instead, there are four to choose from.
And, don’t forget to share a dessert. We indulged in the decadently rich molten chocolate cake à la mode with vanilla whipped cream.
