The PPBA’s Mustang 9U All-Star team wins its first game of the Super Region playoffs.
The Pacific Palisades Baseball Association‘s Mustang 9U All-Star team held off Placentia 12-9 in its first-round game of the PONY Super Region playoffs in Santa Clarita.
Finn Johnson, Henry Wendorf and Davis White each had two hits, starter Caden Abraham pitched three solid innings and White got the final six outs for Palisades, which had early leads of 3-1, 5-3 and 7-4.
Johnson’s two-RBI single made it 8-4 in the bottom of the fourth, Wendorf’s single drove in another run and Abraham scored on an error to make it 10-4. White came on in relief with Palisades clinging to a 10-8 lead with the bases loaded and no outs in the top of the fifth and retired the next three batters, one on a strikeout, to escape the jam. In the bottom of the fifth, White’s RBI single to right field scored Tommy Farmer and White scored Palisades’ final run a passed ball.
Only two of 16 teams advance out of the double-elimination bracket. Palisades will play again at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
