The Pacific Palisades Community Council held its monthly meeting on Thursday, April 14, where PPCC received an update on emergency preparedness by CERT Coordinator K.C. Soll, added Resilient Palisades as a rotating organizational member of the board and provided local updates.
Soll discussed the importance of the “Ready Your LA Neighborhood’’ program during her presentation, emphasizing the need for Palisadians to prepare themselves for future disasters, such as wildfires or earthquakes. She listed a number of necessary emergency kit items for disaster planning, including a gallon of water per person or pet per day for three to seven days, a flashlight and batteries, hygiene supplies, toilet paper, wet wipes, garbage bags, blankets and sleeping bags, non-perishable foods like granola bars, crackers, peanut butter and canned food, a manual can opener, pet food, and baby formula.
Working over a period of six months with eight areas of the Palisades, Soll said she has been arranging meetings that focus on which neighborhoods have medical professionals, CERT training specialists, or others who can aid in the case of an emergency situation.
Later, Chair David Card led the board in taking the final steps to adding Resilient Palisades to their organization.
“As chair of the PPCC, I was thrilled that the Bylaw amendments were passed by the board virtually unanimously, thanks to the careful work of the Bylaws Committee, chaired by Richard Cohen,” Card said to the Palisadian-Post. “As the Palisades community grows and changes, we need to recognize the contributions of new organizations and to allow them to bring new perspectives. Resilient Palisades has improved the life of our community through its educational and other programs, and we expect it to continue to do so as an active member of the PPCC Board. Ryan Craig is the organization’s representative to the PPCC.”
The nominating committee also nominated the PPCC officer candidates for 2022-2023, which include Steve Cron, Beth Holden-Garland, Mary Mueller, Nancy Niles, Joanna Spak and Rob Weber.
Once the nominees are chosen, the board will elect new officers on June 9.
Additionally, the reservoir—located at 1251 Palisades Drive—will undergo repair and maintenance by the LADWP in mid-May.
“To prepare for this work, the reservoir will be drained into a nearby outlet where it will blend in with rainwater and other runoff sources. Draining is expected to be completed by May 13 and the public may see some water flowing into the outlet,” according to a statement from LADWP Senior Public Relations Specialist Deborah Hong. “Reservoir repairs are expected to begin around May 16. Water service to local residents will not be affected and there will be very minimal noise or dust expected from operations.”
