Palisadian Robbie Bellamy and doubles partner Gregory Garcia were the last-standing Americans in the Boys 16 draw at the Orange Bowl Tennis championships in Plantation, Florida. Though they succumbed in the semifinals to Britain’s Alexander Sendegeya and the Netherlands’ Franz Sydow in a tiebreaker set, 7-6 (5), 6-4, it was quite a remarkable run for Bellamy and Garcia, who lives in San Diego. They began with a major upset of top-seeded Russians Fedor Andrienko and Anton Desyatnik in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, then continued with a thrilling tiebreaker set victory over Korea’s Hyeon Chung and Geon Ju Shin, 7-5, 5-7 [10-5]. Next they triumphed over Austria’s Lucas Miedler and Sebastian Ofner, 7-5, 6-4. Bellamy also participated in the singles draw, where he dropped a hard-fought first-round match to Andrienko, who was seeded third, 6-3, 6-3.
