Saeed Kohanoff, new owner of the Shell Station at the corner of Sunset and Via de la Paz, and architect Richard Finkel of Bundy-Finkel Architects presented the latest adaptation of the gas station’s architectural design to the Design Review Board at the DRB’s regularly scheduled meeting at the Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, July 22.
The DRB encouraged Finkel and his client to enhance the gas station’s landscaping with a focus on low-water plants and trees and to bring a landscaper to the next meeting.
The gas station’s latest design adaptation depicts a modern building with glass and neutral wall color.
Stuart Muller, DRB board member, suggested the duo make sure the lettering on the gas station’s signage showing gas prices will not be bright red—a color he said is “like blood on the highway” and a blight to Sunset views.
