VOCES8 is slated to return to the St. Matthew’s Music Guild on Friday, February 25.
“The hottest vocal ensemble on the planet, VOCES8, returns to the St. Matthew’s Music Guild following their sold-out 2019 concert with a program ranging from the Elizabethan Renaissance to contemporary jazz-inflected works,” according to the website.
As part of the St. Matthew’s Music Guild’s 37th season of concerts, the group will perform a varied program that will span 400 years.
“Entitled ‘After Silence,’ the program will feature selections from Monteverdi’s Madrigals, Book VI, Benjamin Britten’s ‘Hymn to St. Cecilia,’ and masterpieces by Gibbons, Victoria, Rachmaninoff and others,” according to a press release. “VOCES8 has performed at many notable venues in its 15-year career, including Wigmore Hall, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Cité de la Musique Paris, Vienna Konzerthaus, Tokyo Opera City, NCPA Beijing, Sydney Opera House, Mariinsky Theatre Concert Hall, Victoria Concert Hall Singapore, Palacio de Bellas Artes Mexico City amongst many others.”
VOCES8 recently launched LIVE From London, a “ground-breaking” global streaming festival hosted by the VOCES8 Foundation that connects performers with audiences around the world. It was followed by a Christmas festival which featured musicians from around the world, and all new music.
“Festivals in the spring and summer continue the success of LIVE From London,” the press release reads.
While in Southern California, VOCES8 will also participate in a choral workshop with the USC Thornton Chamber Singers who will share the stage in Jake Runestad’s “Let My Love Be Heard.”
The February 25 concert will take place at St. Matthew’s Church, located at 1031 Bienveneda Avenue. Tickets are $35 or available as part of the Music Guild’s season pass.
