Several Palisades residents reported smelling a gas like odor on Sunday. Officials said they believe the odor was from ocean-based natural phenomenon blowing ashore from the Santa Monica Bay. Los Angeles Fire Department officials issued the following statement when the odor was first detected by the public: “Allied agencies have told LAFD that a foul odor noted inland from the Santa Monica Bay this morning is an ocean-based natural occurrence. Specific information about the odor falls within the expertise of regional air quality management officials.”
