Popcorn movie fans will cheer in Will Rogers State Park on Saturday, May 26, at Street Food Cinema’s presentation of “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” The first installment in the famed Indiana Jones franchise, this Steven Spielberg wonder features Harrison Ford in the prime of his smoldering, gruff appeal.
Several of its other players are now deceased—Ronald Lacey, Denholm Elliot, Don Fellows and William Hootkins. Thus, the film takes on a special period quality as it continues to live lustrously and attract fresh eyes.
Lawrence Kasdan is responsible for writing “Raiders” for the screen, and it’s almost impossible to believe this was only his second attempt at screenwriting. (His first was “Star Wars V – The Empire Strikes Back.” An irrefutable talent indeed.) Some films are designed for sheer enjoyment, and this is definitely one of them.
The evening will feature music by the band Dankrupt, who describe their sound as “Calirock” on their Facebook page. Comedian Grant Cotter will perform as master of ceremonies. Accompanying the entertainment will be food from Canvas Food Truck, Go Beyond the Bowl, Pickles & Peas, Pinch of Flavor, Tender Grill, Wise BBQ, Yummy Pie Babies and more. Which begs the question, what more could possibly be needed?
The doors open to this event at 6 p.m., with live music kicking off at 6:30 p.m. and the movie beginning at 8:30 p.m. See the website for pricing information. Those with theatrically inclined pups will be happy to know the entire evening is dog friendly.
Now, when you’re perched on your grassy knoll awaiting the wonders of Hollywood escapism, remember to sit back, relax, and let Indy transport you into the thrills and chills of his intrepid worldly exploration.
