In just the last year, a number of new tenants have introduced themselves to the Pacific Palisades community. One of the most recent projects to be approved is The Hydration Room, which is slated to be located at 15278 Antioch Street.
The Hydration Room was established in December 2014 by board certified anesthesiologist Dr. Brett Florie, and integrates both allopathic and osteopathic medicine into vitamin injection and IV therapies.
Florie said the conception of The Hydration Room grew out of initial concern for his wife who suffered from chronic migraines. He began developing a vitamin IV therapy that “changed her life.”
“I saw the power of vitamin therapy and from there, I came up with other formulas for a couple of years, taking care of my friends … who were sick, patients who were traveling, athletes,” Florie said to the Palisadian-Post. “That’s how the conception started.”
In contrast to oral supplements, Florie explained that liquid vitamin therapy is more efficient. Vitamin injections deliver nutrients directly into the bloodstream—helping his patients who have autoimmune diseases, digestive or malabsorption issues. Patients also see a “quicker and better” effect.
“When you take an oral vitamin, multivitamin or anything orally, you only absorb a fraction of that amount, about 15 to 20% of that oral vitamin,” Florie explained. “If I’m able to bypass the stomach and the GI tract and get vitamins, minerals … into the bloodstream, I could get up to 100% absorption from the bloodstream into the cells so it’s a much more powerful effect and better response.”
Director of Operations Shaun Hayward also said The Hydration Room works directly with a compounding pharmacy to deliver the purest product.
“That pure form is going to be more powerful than you just going to CVS and picking up a vitamin. A lot of those things have fillers or other things in them,” Hayward said. “This is going to be directly from a compounding pharmacy to The Hydration Room, into your bloodstream and into your body.”
Florie said patients go through a consultation with a nurse before working with him to decide what the best therapy would be, considering their medical history, goals and symptoms.
Hayward added The Hydration Room employs only registered nurses from the local communities.
“They’re working at Cedars Sinai, they’re working at St. John’s in Santa Monica,” he said. “These are all nurses that are in the community already … [They work to] customize something that helps you best and everybody’s bodies are different. It’s really not a one-size fits all and that’s where the registered nurses come in.
“These are trained professionals and Dr. Florie is an expert in his field. You’re getting the best of the best.”
Florie said IV therapy also helps the general public stay healthy, athletes with muscle recovery and more.
The first location opened in 2015. Now, there are currently 18 Hydration Rooms across LA, Orange and San Diego counties.
“I’ve been able to see this grow from an idea in Dr. Florie’s head … and it really took off,” Hayward said to the Post. “Now we have 18 [locations] and I think that really speaks to our brand. We’ve been slow and methodical about what communities we want to come into and who we are helping. A lot of our clinics are community-based.”
Hayward said the Palisades location will act as an extension of The Hydration Room in Santa Monica, which opened in April 2018.
“That one is consistently one of our busiest clinics and a good chunk of our patients are from Pacific Palisades,” Hayward said. “Palisades was a smart decision on our end and for our patients to get them in faster, treat them quicker and make them feel better.”
Hayward said The Hydration Room is hoping to open its Palisades doors in the next three to four months.
