The Summit Club in the Highlands hosted its inaugural Pickleball Party on Sunday, May 7—where more than 50 homeowners attended to play.
Several years ago, professional pickleball player Nathalie Herreman-Bagby approached The Summit HOA manager’s office, requesting that board members consider adding pickleball stripes and portable nets on one of the tennis courts, according to a press release shared by The Summit at Palisades Highlands HOA. Herreman-Bagby explained at the time that pickleball “was in many conversations” and that it was “booming at tennis centers across the U.S.”
The Summit, which is described on its website as “the premiere upscale family living community on the Westside in Los Angeles,” said it received community support of the request, leading to the May event.
The “hub” of The Summit at Palisades Highlands is the Summit Club, the website continued, which is a “multiacre community facility” that is accessible by the 300-plus homeowners. It includes a heated pool and spa, gym, tennis courts, meeting facilities, children’s playground, and more.
“The event was really fun,” Herreman-Bagby, a former Wimbledon tennis player who, since 2021, has been a top U.S. Senior Pro pickleball player.
Herreman-Bagby was joined on the courts by Coach Alex Komlos, who shared he “fell in love with the sport after being a college squash player. He shared he became a coach to help “players better understand the sport, both technically and mentally.”
“It’s so great that the Summit HOA supports fun community events like this, so everyone gets the chance to play this fun sport,” Summit resident Carla Davidson said.
The Summit Club HOA described the event as a “big success,” with hopes of hosting additional pickleball events this summer.
“The recreation committee enjoys planning events that bring our community together,” said Board Member Kim Lang. “It’s another great reason to live up here.”
