Rounding out its four-show season, Theatre Palisades will present “The Sweet Delilah Swim Club,” which is set to open at Pierson Playhouse on November 4.
Described as a “hilarious and touching comedy about friendships that last forever,” the show was written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten.
“A story of five Southern women, whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team, who set aside a long weekend every August to recharge their relationships with each other,” according to a synopsis provided by Theatre Palisades. “Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage, the ‘Sweet Delilah,’ on North Carolina’s Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other’s lives.”
The show will focus on four of those weekends, spanned over 33 years.
“Sheree, the spunky team captain, desperately tries to maintain her organized and ‘perfect’ life, and continues to be the group’s leader,” according to Theatre Palisades. “Dinah, the wisecracking overachiever, is a career dynamo. But her victories in the courtroom are in stark contrast to the frustrations of her personal life.”
“Pampered and outspoken,” Lexie’s goal is to hold on to her looks and youth as long as she can.
“The self-deprecating and acerbic Vernadette, acutely aware of the dark cloud that hovers over her life, has decided to just give in and embrace the chaos,” Theatre Palisades continued. “And sweet, eager-to-please Jeri Neal experiences a late entry into motherhood that takes them all by surprise.”
The Theatre Palisades’ show is directed by Sherman Wayne and produced by Martha Hunter, who is also taking on the role of Jeri Neal. The cast is rounded out by Mary Allwright as Vernadette, Maria O’Connor as Sheree, Laura Goldstein as Lexie and Michele Schultz as Dinah.
“The Sweet Delilah Swim Club” follows the “wildly successful” run of “Nunsense,” which concluded on October 2.
Performances will take place on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., as well as Sundays at 2 p.m., through December 11. All shows take place at Pierson Playhouse, located at 941 Temescal Canyon Road.
Tickets are $22 for adults, $20 for seniors and students.
