Evening campfires are held every Thursday evening, 7 to 8:30 p.m. (through August 23) at the stone amphitheater in Temescal Gateway Park. Participants are asked to bring ‘good cheer’ and the park staff will provide a roaring campfire, the program and marshmallows. Parking is $7.

Volunteers are invited to help beautify the California native plant garden in Temescal Canyon Park, across from the Palisades High stadium, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The park, cleared of years of neglect, is slowly returning to its intended state with over 170 new perennials, many of them in bloom. The Palisades Branch Library is hosting a Harry Potter Film Festival, beginning with ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,’ at 2 p.m. in the community room, 861 Alma Real. Costumes are optional, but there will be prizes for the best ones.
The Greg Alper Quartet, featuring Alper (soprano sax), Joe Gaeta (guitar), William Markus (bass) and Jack LeCompte (drums) performs, 7 to 10 p.m. at Steve’s Oak Room, 1029 Swarthmore. No cover charge.

Monthly Pacific Palisades Chamber of Commerce mixer, 5:30 to 7:30 at Palisades Jewish Early Childhood Center Chabad, 17315 Sunset. The public is invited to enjoy hosted refreshments and a drawing for gifts donated by Chamber members. Admission is free for Chamber members; $25 for non-members.
Temescal Canyon Association’s Tuesday Night Hike will seek out the secret stairways of Santa Monica Canyon.
