Palisadian Tom Hanks is set to reunite with the trio behind the 1994 film “Forrest Gump,” including director Robert Zemeckis and screenwriter Eric Roth, for a new film titled “Here,” according to Deadline.
Roth is slated to write the script based on the 2014 eponymous graphic novel by Richard McGuire.
“‘Here’ was a critically acclaimed graphic novel that told the story of a single room over an expansive period of time,” according to a synopsis by Collider. “The novel delved into the stories of the people who occupied the room from the past and into the distant future. ‘Here’ originally began as a six-page comic strip that McGuire published in 1989, but was extended into a graphic novel in 2014.”
Zemeckis and Hanks have collaborated a number of times since the release of “Forrest Gump,” on projects like “Cast Away,” “The Polar Express” and the upcoming film “Pinocchio.”
“Here” will mark the first time the “Forrest Gump” trio has worked together in 30 years. Hanks, Zemeckis and Roth all won Oscars in their respective categories for the classic film.
The film is slated to be produced by Hanks and Gary Goetzman’s production company Playtone, and Zemeckis’s production company Imagemovers.
The project is still in development, according to Collider, but is of great interest to studios and streaming services, and will be auctioned soon. The auction will be brokered by CAA, which reps Hanks, and WME, which represents Zemeckis and ImageMovers.
As the Palisadian-Post went to print, no release date for “Here” had been confirmed.
Beyond “Here,” Hanks has a number of upcoming films to look out for including Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis,” Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City,” “A Man Called Otto” and the aforementioned “Pinocchio,” in which Hanks will be playing the role of Gepetto.
Palisadians can currently find him in “Finch,” “Greyhound” and “News of the World.”
