IndyCar racer Townsend Bell was installed as the town’s honorary sheriff for 2013-2014 on April 30 at Patrick’s Roadhouse on PCH at Entrada. He was sworn in by Rich Wilken, a past honoree.
In addition to racing in the Indianapolis 500 in recent years, and serving as a commentator for NBC Sports, Bell has become active in the community since moving here with his wife, Heather, and their two sons, Jaxon and Jensen, in 2010.
More specifically, Bell has been a proponent of addressing the town’s homeless issues.
“Townsend has participated in the Community Council’s Homeless Task Force and participated in meeting with private organizations such as PATH and with our own team of officers to find a solution to minimize the impact of homeless on the community,” said Scott Wagenseller, CEO of Palisades Patrol, who oversees the sheriff’s position. “We look forward to supporting whatever projects he deems good for the town.”
Wagenseller added, “The Sheriff position was created in 2003 and is sponsored by Palisades Patrol to provide the community with a public safety committee to address issues that impact the quality of life in Pacific Palisades.”
