If victories were measured in distance rather than points, the Palisades High track team would be winning the Western League by a country mile. As it is, the Dolphins are undefeated in three league meets, having outscored University, Venice and Fairfax by large margins. “Our first real test will be the City prelims,” Pali Coach Ron Brumel said. “That’s where we’ll see what we’re made of.” All of the Dolphins’ relay teams have been impressive and Palisades’ superior numbers allows it to fill every event to pick up additional points. Carlos Bustamante has been a standout for the frosh/soph boys, Jann Stavro (who finished second in the 400 last Friday against Fairfax) is a key contributor for the varsity boys and freshman Lauren Gustafson has stood out in both the 200 and 400 meters for the girls varsity. Swimming The Dolphins swept all four divisions in Monday’s Western League meet against Hamilton. Pali’s frosh/soph boys won 74-0, the frosh/soph girls won 110-12, the varsity boys won 120-27 and the varsity girls won 124-18. “This was our third competitive meet in four days,” Pali Coach Maggie Nance said. “We swam off events as it was not a very competitive meet. The kids weren’t happy about swimming things that they don’t swim normally, but it was interesting and they did well.” Against rival Venice last Friday, Pali’s frosh/soph girls won 108-31, the frosh/soph boys lost 89-50, the varsity girls won 104-74 and the varsity boys lost 104-74. Palisades’ last dual meet is Monday against LACES. Baseball Johnny Bromberg threw a no-hitter with seven strikeouts and hit two home runs as the Dolphins routed host University 11-0 in five innings on Monday to remain undefeated in the Western League. Austin Jones led off the game with a home run, Garrett Champion and Oliver Goulds each went three-for-three (Goulds had a double and a homer), Cole Cook hit a two-run homer and Jonathan Moscot hit two doubles. Boys Tennis The Dolphins clinched the Western league title with a 6-1 victory at windy Venice last Thursday. Sepehr Safii and Mason Hays lost the first set and survived a match point in the second to win at No. 1 doubles. It was the 820th career victory for Coach Bud Kling. Palisades (18-3 overall, 10-0 in league) wraps up league play next Wednesday against Fairfax. Boys Volleyball Led by Jordan Cohen’s 11 kills, the Dolphins swept Hamilton 25-15, 25-11, 25-13 last Wednesday to remain in the hunt for the Western League title. The Hamilton had stretched the Dolphins to five games in their first encounter. Palisades finished league play Wednesday at Westchester. Lacrosse The Dolphins rebounded from their first loss of the season (to Downey) with impressive road victories over Beverly Hills (14-10), Chadwick (9-7) and Harvard-Westlake (13-7).
