11 p.m. UPDATE: Temecal Canyon Road is now open in both directions and authorities have confirmed that one worker was killed. The second worker was rescued just after 3 p.m. and transported to the UCLA Medical Center in stable but serious condition. The project foreman told a neighbor that the hole is about 12 feet deep. The incident occurred 200 feet north of PCH where the City of L.A.’s Storm Water Interceptor line is being installed. Look for more information in next week’s Palisadian-Post.

Two workers fell and were trapped in a trench today in the 200 block of Temescal Canyon Road near Pacific Coast Highway.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, more than 50 firefighters are responding to the incident, which was reported at 1:34 p.m.
“They were working in the area and were excavating using backhoes,” said Erik Scott, spokesperson for the LAFD. “Both of the victims are trapped, and one is conscious and the other is unconscious.”
The depth of the trench is unknown and firefighters are attempting to shore the trench. LAFD officials said this will likely be an extended rescue operation.
The incident is north of PCH where the City of L.A.’s Storm Water Interceptor line is being installed.
