Many Palisadians joined anti-offshore drilling rallies on Saturday, Feb. 3, after the Trump administration announced plans to roll back restrictions on the West Coast. Hundreds gathered at the end of the Santa Monica Pier wielding signs that read “Protect Our Coasts” and “Stop Drilling” as city councilmember Mike Bonin and State Senator Ben Allen spoke from the stage protesting offshore drilling. A proposed five-year leasing program aims to go into effect in 2019 allowing oil and gas companies to expand controversial drilling in the Pacific Ocean.
