The LA City Section Wrestling Championships are Friday and Saturday at San Fernando High and several Palisades High athletes will contend for podium spots in their respective weight classes.
James Van Wagenen, the reigning City champion at 106 pounds, will contend in the 120-pound division; Derek Anwar, runner-up at 138 last year, will move up a weight class; and Cole Rowland, a finalist at the San Fernando Tournament, is one of the favorites at 170.
Palisades lost to Canoga Park in the quarterfinals of the City Duals in January and was second to Birmingham at last year’s City Finals.
The state meet is Feb. 23-25 at Mechanics Bank Arena in Bakersfield.
