Parklet Response
I was one of the people who did not want a Parklet in front of the Garden Cafe. As last week’s 2 Cent person wrote, yes, Parklets are great. The concern was the location on a busy T intersection and close to 3 elementary schools. Garden Cafe has gobs of lively young fans and adding kids into traffic is dangerous. No way will kids stay within the Parklet lines!
Bird Count
This is the time that Audubon, The Cornell Lab, and Birds Canada are hosting the annual Great Backyard Bird Count! All you need is 15 minutes, although you can do as much as you like. To participate, use the Merlin Bird ID app to record the birds you see anytime from Friday Feb. 17 through Monday Feb. 20. Let’s find out who is flying over the Palisades! To learn more, visit birdcount.org/merlin-bird-id-app.
Agendas
I for one think it would be nice that the paper and organizations find a way to publish agendas for local meetings before they come rather than waiting until it’s over so we know who is going to be coming as a guest.
(Editor’s note: We try to publish as much as we can ahead of time, as space allows. Our Neighborhood News section is where readers can most frequently find preview information for meetings.)
‘Spring Gardens for Birds’
According to the California Native Plant Society: “The main threats to birds in southern California are gardeners with leaf blowers, pest control services that spray too frequently for insects outside the house, and early spring brush clearance requirements that push some homeowners to employ crews to prune out protective canopy, to destroy nests in trees, bushes and on the ground and to remove all cover for young fledglings in the spring.” Paying a little extra for your garden service and embracing the rake as an alternative to any type of leaf blower is a win win for your gardener’s health, our health and wildlife in general.
Green Bins
LASAN wants us to dump our food particles into the green bins, can you imagine what that’s going to be like with all of the green bins holding food for a week? How many rodents we’re going to have, attracted by all that food?
Paliskates
Paliskates is very cool and loved reading about Adam Sandler wearing their shirt on The Tonight Show, your paper rocks.
